You know what you want. You can see it. You’ve thought about the next steps a hundred times.
Maybe it’s starting a business, changing careers, putting yourself out there on social media, or creating a new income stream.
And yet, something stops you from making meaningful progress.
You procrastinate. Overthink. Over plan. Distract Yourself. Talk yourself out of it.
You have enough self awareness to know this is self-sabotage.
But it’s not like you’re lazy – you are more than willing to do the work. It’s something else that you can’t quite put your finger on.

This frustrating self-sabotage is not coming out of nowhere. It’s actually a really sophisticated protection mechanism stemming from your subconscious mind.
But you don’t need to be protected from the life and business you want! In this post, I’ll explain what is happening beneath your awareness that is causing these subconscious blocks in business, what to do about it.
What Are Subconscious Blocks in Business and Career?
I’ve been helping people just like you for over 8 years work through their subconscious block, and I know that self-sabotage is the ultimate chameleon.
It’s exceptionally good at looking like anything but what it really is. See if any of this sounds familiar:
Knowing what you want but not taking action
Classic freeze response. In your mind, the next steps are clear as day. But why won’t you just do it?! This can feel so frustrating.
Repeating the same patterns
You know what doesn’t get you ahead, yet you can watch yourself do it over and over again…
Feeling stuck despite effort
You feel like you’re trying everything, but no matter how hard you try, you’re not moving the needle.
Starting and stopping
“Okay, this is it. I’m ready to go all in.” For a few weeks, then something came up. And it’s back to square one.
Fear around failing (or succeeding)
You have a plan, know what you need to do, but then you can’t pull the trigger because, what if it doesn’t work out? (Or what if it does? Yikes!)
Overwhelm when opportunities arise
Some opportunity lands in your lap, and even though this is exactly what you want, it feels so overwhelming and stressful.
Perhaps you can see yourself in one (or a few) of those examples. Trust me, you are not alone.
Even though they have felt like a brick wall you can’t get over, there actually is a solution.
Why You Feel Blocked: It’s Often a Protective Response
The first thing you need to understand about feeling blocked is that the reason it feels like you don’t understand why you are sabotaging yourself is because it is likely happening beneath your awareness, in your subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind doesn’t care about success or career milestones. It cares about safety and predictability.
Safety because your survival is crucial, and predictability because the known feels safer than the unknown.
So, if you’re wondering, why do I feel blocked in my business? it’s likely because growth and success go against your subconscious mind’s main priorities of safety and predictability.
Resolving these subconscious blocks in business means creating safety where your mind perceives threat.
This is how your subconscious mind may be interpreting your goals:
Success = added pressure and responsibility
Visibility = opening the door to judgment from others
Change = uncertainty and instability
Failure = shame and unworthiness
Taking action = overwhelm and stress
Common Hidden Reasons People Feel Blocked
Fear
Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection, fear of change.
Shame
Believing you’re not good enough, smart enough, deserving enough.
Overwhelm
Your nervous system associates action with stress.
Past Experiences
Old memories where trying, speaking up, or being visible led to pain or criticism.
Why Willpower Alone Often Doesn’t Work
Many people try to solve these unconscious blocks with hard work, discipline, strategies, or more certifications and training.
Unfortunately, doing more of the same will not get you anywhere.
If you want to know how to resolve your unconscious blocks, you actually need to understand them.
Doing the “logical” thing often doesn’t work because the blocks aren’t logical – they’re emotional. And we cannot resolve emotion with logic.
It’s like telling someone who’s having an anxiety attack that everything’s okay, just calm down. Logic doesn’t make them feel better. And I’m sure you can relate.
But if discipline and strategy aren’t the solution, then what is?
How Hypnosis Can Help You Move Forward
Resolving subconscious blocks is more efficiently done in the subconscious mind. That’s why hypnotherapy can yield such rapid results.
My approach is to use hypnosis as a tool to access the source of the self-sabotage. Together, we can identify the part of you that is feeling threatened by your growth, and work on resolving the emotion tied to it.
Parts therapy and regression therapy are highly effective in helping us to identify the core issue, and resolve it at the root.
By resolving the emotion, we create safety around taking this new action.
When you create safety around your goals, then your subconscious is no longer standing in your way of achieving them.
What is Hypnotherapy?
If you’re new to hypnotherapy, it might sound a little far fetched. Let me assure you, it’s not woo-woo, it’s neuroscience.
Put simply, hypnosis is a trance state. Trance is when your brainwaves slow from Beta down to Alpha or Theta. This happens when you daydream, and every night as you drift into sleep.
In these slower brainwaves, we can access deeper emotions, beliefs and memories that your subconscious is using to determine how safe it feels to grow and expand.
You are fully conscious during the sessions and will remember everything when the session is over. In my sessions, you are an active participant.
These sessions are usually extremely meaningful and insightful as my clients are releasing old beliefs, healing unresolved emotions, and uncovering their true self in the process.
Unlike traditional talk-therapy, we typically resolve any issue within 3-6 sessions without the need for ongoing support.
You’re not Blocked, You’re Responding Appropriately
If you take only one thing from this article, let it be this: You are not blocked, your subconscious mind is responding perfectly to what it perceives as a threat.
Overcoming this blocked feeling is not about overriding our internal protection mechanisms, it’s about resolving the perceived threat and creating safety around moving forward.
This strategy will result in long-term success rather than the frustrating yo-yo of starting and stopping that “trying harder” often leads to.
