Natural Allergy Relief: How Hypnosis Can Help Reverse Allergies

hypnosis for allergies

Have you ever wondered if there's more to allergies than just a physical reaction? As it turns out, our minds and bodies are deeply intertwined, and there's a fascinating emotional component to the allergies that plague so many. Yes, you read that right – emotions can play a significant role in the development of allergies!

In this blog post, we'll delve into the world of allergies, exploring how our subconscious mind can create negative associations between allergens and past experiences or stressors. We'll also shed light on hypnosis as an alternative approach to allergy relief by addressing these emotional connections. So, if you're ready to uncover the hidden links between your mind, emotions, and allergies, read on!

What is an Allergic Reaction?

Before we dive into the emotional aspects of allergies, let's first understand what happens during an allergic reaction. Allergies occur when your immune system mistakenly identifies a harmless substance, such as pollen, pet dander, or certain foods, as a dangerous invader. In response, your body launches a defense mechanism to protect itself from this perceived threat.

During an allergic reaction, your body releases histamines and other chemicals into your bloodstream, causing a variety of symptoms that can range from mildly annoying to potentially life-threatening. These symptoms may include sneezing, itching, watery eyes, skin rashes, difficulty breathing, or even anaphylaxis – a severe and potentially fatal allergic reaction.

But if you take a step back and see the body’s reaction to allergies from a larger framework, you can see that the body is reacting to something non-threatening as if it is extremely dangerous. On their own, pet dander, pollen, gluten and more, do not actually pose any real threat to our body. And it’s not the allergens themselves that create the allergic reaction – it’s our body’s reaction to those harmless allergens that create the annoying symptoms like sneezing and watery eyes.

Perhaps you can start to read between the lines and see the underlying emotion in an allergic reaction. Essentially, the body is reacting in a fearful manner to something that is not dangerous. Now the question becomes, Why?

The Role of Emotions in Allergies

While the physical process behind allergies is well understood, the emotional component is less widely recognized. Our subconscious mind can create powerful associations between allergens and stressful or traumatic experiences, leading to a heightened response when we encounter these substances in the future.

Essentially, our body has decided that a harmless particle is dangerous simply because the particle was present when we experienced stress. To simplify;

Particle + Stress = Negative Association resulting in (fearful) Allergic Reaction

This negative association then creates an allergic reaction because ultimately, the subconscious is trying to keep us safe from possible threats. If it’s determined that a particle (such as pollen) is a threat, it will try to protect us by releasing histamine into the bloodstream. Histamine is what causes the common allergy symptoms like itchiness, sneezing, etc. Its our body’s way of trying to rid the particle from the body.

This whole process happens because the subconscious has created a negative association with the particle – or in other words, it’s become afraid. When the subconscious is afraid, it reacts in a fearful way. This explains why not everybody has a pollen allergy – the pollen particles themselves are not dangerous, it’s the fearful reaction to the particle that causes the allergic reaction.

You might be thinking, how does my subconscious create a negative association? Here’s an example: if you experienced a stressful event while being exposed to a particular allergen, your subconscious mind might link that allergen to the stress associated with the experience.

This connection can trigger an allergic reaction whenever you encounter the allergen in the future, as your body attempts to protect itself from the stress that it experienced before.

So, what happens when we release the fear and stress that your subconscious mind has associated with the allergen? In the next section, we’ll have a look at how hypnotherapy can be an incredible tool to release the stored emotion, breaking the negative association and helping you find relief from your allergies.

Using Hypnosis for Allergy Relief

Hypnosis is a powerful tool for accessing the subconscious mind and addressing the emotional roots of allergies. During a hypnosis session, your hypnotherapist would guide you into a trance state, allowing you to bypass your conscious mind and connect with your subconscious.

In this state, you'll be more open to understanding the emotional connections that may be driving your allergic reactions. In hypnosis, we can help you identify any past experiences or stressors that your subconscious mind has linked to the allergen, allowing you to process and release those stored emotions.

Once the underlying stress has been resolved at a subconscious level, we can begin to break the negative association and reframe the way your subconscious is perceiving the allergen. By reprogramming your mind to view the allergen as harmless, your body can learn to respond more appropriately, ultimately reducing or even eliminating your allergic reactions.

It's important to note that hypnosis isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, and results may vary depending on the individual and the severity of their allergies. However, for many people, hypnosis can be an effective and natural way to find relief from allergies and improve their overall quality of life.

Real Client Experience

It’s so much easier to understand how we can find relief from allergies with hypnosis by painting a picture with a real client experience. To protect my client’s privacy, I’ve changed her name and will refer to her throughout this article as Jane.

Jane suffered from seasonal allergies which started in early March and continued to affect her until around July when the pollen and airborne allergens from the spring were less prevalent. Jane’s allergies consisted of watering eyes, plugged ears, congested sinuses, sneezing, coughing, and fatigue. Jane was taking allergy medications daily to combat the severe symptoms, and each year, dreaded the early spring and summer season.

Our aim for her hypnotherapy sessions was to understand and release the emotional connection to her body’s allergic reaction. Essentially, we wanted to understand why her subconscious mind and body was reacting to pollen (which is completely non-threatening) as if it is extremely dangerous.

In her Hypnotherapy session, we found that her subconscious was storing a lot of fear. This fear was causing her body to become hypervigilant to these airborne allergens, creating a fearful reaction to something non-threatening. As we dove deeper into this fear, it took us to early childhood memories where she felt unsafe.

As we began to reframe this memory, Jane was able to release the fear that she felt and started to feel lighter and more assured. By accessing the memory directly, we released the stored emotion and helped her subconscious mind feel as though the threat was over.

In subsequent sessions, we focused on releasing the negative association her subconscious had created to pollen. In a trance state, we used a simple technique to help her subconscious break the negative association and learn to react to pollen properly – as though it is neutral, not dangerous.

For Jane, this process is retraining her subconscious to react to pollen in a new way, however, the same process applies for any number of allergens. By releasing the root of why your body is reacting with fear, and breaking the negative associations to the allergen, it’s possible to find long-term relief from allergies.
