How to Use a Vision Board to Manifest Your Dreams

Arts and crafts aren’t just for the kids. A vision board is a great way to manifest your dreams and ambitions and create the reality you crave.

A vision board (also called a dream board) is a collage of photos and words that represent your dreams and goals.

It’s a board that you can look at often and remind you of the bigger picture. It’s a visual record of your goals and why you’re doing what you’re doing.

I love vision boards, I think they’re fun to make and beautiful to look at. Plus, they keep your eye on the prize so you don’t stray from your goals.

Making a vision board is super easy! I’ve broken it down into 7 steps, and have photos of mine to give you inspiration.

How to Make and Use a Vision Board

1. Get in the Right Mindset

Preferably, you want to make your vision board when you’re feeling motivated and excited about your goals. If you’re feeling down, or like you can’t achieve them, your vision board wont accurately reflect your deepest desires.

It’s also important to note that you shouldn’t make a vision board after scrolling Instagram. Avoid all social media if you can while in the process of making your vision board. It’s too easy to get caught up in wanting what other people have just because it’s visually appealing.

After scrolling Instagram for twenty minutes, you might be persuaded to think your dream is to win a bikini competition or to live in a van and drive across the country. But really, you want to start a family or focus on your career. Social media can easily derail you, so avoid it.

2. Have your Goals Handy

If you’ve already established your goals and ambitions, then take them out so you can stay on track. If not, take a few minutes of uninterrupted time to dig deep and figure out what your true dreams really are.

It helps to picture your dream life. What do you have/do in your dream life that you currently do not? Try to ignore money for this exercise and focus on what it is you actually want with your life.

3. Search Magazines or Scroll Pinterest

The original vision boards were made up of collages from magazine cut outs. This is a great way to do it, but if you’re not really finding what you want, try searching Pinterest.

That way you can be more specific on what you want to find, instead of flipping through an entire Good House Keeping Magazine to find a photo of your dream kitchen.

My preferred method is Pinterest, mainly because I don’t keep magazines around. Just a heads up, you’ll go through a lot of ink if you chose the Pinterest route!

4. Collect what Inspires You

If you’re looking for a photo to illustrate your dream of remodeling your kitchen, don’t just settle on the first kitchen photo you come across.

The point of a vision board is to find photos that really resonate with you and that spark that excitement when you look at them.

Keep looking until you find photos that make you excited about your goals.

You can also cut out words and phrases that go along with your vision. Anything goes as long as it relates to your goals and inspires you to chase them.

5. Put it Where You See it Everyday

This part is important! There’s no point in making a vision board if you put it in a back room or tuck it away in a closet.

Vision boards are made to be seen!

The manifestation process can’t happen if you don’t look at your board every day.

This doesn’t mean you have to tack it to your dining room walls. This represents your biggest goals and ambitions and if you prefer to keep that private, that’s completely understandable.

You could hang it in your bedroom, or, if you journal daily, why not make your vision board a spread in your journal or agenda. Just make sure you see it every day.

6. Feel the Emotions Attached to Your Goals

Each day, when you look at your vision board, allow yourself to feel the emotions that you would feel if those dreams came true.

Let those bubbly feelings of excitement surface. Your vision board is a tool to manifesting your dreams. It’s a tool to use the Law of Attraction to your benefit.

The Law of Attraction states that “like attracts like”. Meaning when you stand in front of your vision board and let those emotions surface, you are putting positivity out into the universe.

Positivity attracts positivity.

You connect on a higher frequency when you feel happy and excited. And according to the Law of Attraction, when you put out positive vibrations, positivity will come back to you.

I like to think of it like this: if you want something for unselfish reasons, and you take massive action and put out positive vibes, the universe will meet you half way and deliver those dreams in a huge way.

When manifesting your dreams, make sure you are specific on what you want. So make sure your vision board is an accurate reflection of what you want to attract.

7. Update Your Board whenever Necessary

Things change, and it’s a good idea to keep your vision board up to date. If you look at your board and it doesn’t spark that fire inside, it’s time to update.

This is why I like to make mine in more of an organized fashion, that way it’s easy to replace the images that no longer serve me with ones that do.

So get creative and have fun with it! I would love to see your vision boards! Tag me on Instagram and show off your creativity!
